The DJ Project

The DJ Project is an arts entrepreneurship program built on a hip-hop foundation. It uses music to engage young adults, giving them opportunities to develop in a context familiar to them. Through applied entrepreneurship, audio and video production, job readiness training and community service, The DJ Project model is a creative learning experience for the hip-hop generation.

In Progress:

The DJ Project is always looking for new faces to get in on the action. Classes run on 12 week cycles during the Summer (July-Sept), Winter (Nov-Jan) and Spring (Mar-May).

We are currently recruiting for our Summer cycle set to begin on Monday, July 6. If you think you have what it takes to be a part of the DJ Project, click here to download an application. Applications must be submitted by Friday, June 12, 2009.

DJ Project 5th Annual Hip Hop Hoops Tournament: Ball til you Fall

On April 4, 2009, Horizons Unlimited and The DJ Project hosted a Hip-Hop Hoops Tournament "Ball till you Fall" for youth ages 14-22. This was an all ages event at the Mission Recreation Center. There were three on three games, a three-point competition, and a MC battle. The event included performances by local artists, numerous raffles through out the day, local DJs, dancers, and free giveaways.

The purpose behind this event was to educate the community about the vision of The DJ Project and welcome other youth and young adults interested in becoming involved in the programs run through this organization. The DJ Project is instrumental in providing a safe haven for youth so they are off the streets where floods of drugs and violence occur.

We are pleased to recognize the youth who have been actively involved in the planning and execution of the "Ball till you Fall" tournament, from developing a proposal, working with budgets, booking the performances, handling promotions, and contacting and negotiating sponsors. In the process they have learned valuable lessons about time management, accountability, and taking responsibility. The DJ Project model is a creative learning experience for the hip-hop generation.
