The DJ Project is an arts entrepreneurship, prevention, and employment program built on a hip-hop foundation. It uses music to engage young adults, giving them opportunities to develop in a context familiar to them. Through applied entrepreneurship, audio production, DJing, breakdancing, job readiness training and community service, The DJ Project model is a creative learning experience for the hip-hop generation.
But The DJ Project is more than just your typical after school Hip Hop or prevention program. It's a way of life. Youth who participate in The DJ Project build a sense of their own identity through music and engagement with their peers, and grow not only as artists and business moguls, but as leaders in the community. Through an artful mix of B-boy styles, off the chart turntablism, mad vocals, and razor sharp business acumen, The DJ Project youth are launching themselves into the tech savvy 21st Century lifestyle. We are proud of what our youth are accomplishing, and eager to support what they will become. The DJ Project - a new way of life.
Free DJ Project Classes:
The DJ Project is always looking for new faces to get in on the action.
Classes run on 12 week cycles during the Summer (July-Sept), Winter (Nov-Jan) and Spring (Mar-May).
We recently reached the end of our Winter cycle with our Showcase on Friday, February 12, 2010. Like all of our previous cycles, it was 12 weeks of hard work, training, growth, and inspiration. Youth from our Audio Production classes completed a CD entitled, "Project Prevention" which features a mixture of old school grooves and in your face public service announcements about the ills of substance abuse.
Our DJs also had their work cut out for them. During the cycle, they were able to showcase their talent at many community events: Jewish Contemporary Museum celebration on December 17, 2009, B' Magic Winter Ball on December 18, 2009, and the ODC New Year's Party on December 30, 2009. The community can never get enough of our young DJs.
Showing mad skills and topsy turvy moves, our Breakdancers are not your average B-boy masterminds. They bring together innovative approaches to the art form and show the world that dancing isn't for everyone.
If you are interested in becoming a member of The DJ Project family, you can download the Spring Cycle application by clicking here. Classes start on Monday, March 8, 2010. Get in the action!
